Ok, here it is. I’ve mentioned Comeback in my last two posts, and now I’m going to give you the 411 on what it is, how it came to be and how it works.

Comeback is a marketplace where people can buy and sell, preloved and new, camp, college and sports team gear. I’m gonna break it down for you. Think of it as a Poshmark or Mercari, but ONLY for things that have a name of a camp, college or sports team on them. Interesting idea, right? Let me tell you how it got started.

Back in the Spring, when the world went on lockdown thanks to the Coronavirus, I, like a lot of people, found myself cleaning out my closet, as well as, my daughter’s closet. Usually, I would just bag everything I didn’t want anymore and dump it into a clothing dumpster in my travels. But, this time, I took my clothes and listed them to sell on the big reselling websites, Poshmark and Mercari. Well, you know what? People were buying my stuff and cha-ching, I had some new found money in my pocket.

But, then I had a bag full of clothes that had Camp Ramah in the Poconos written on them. For those of you who don’t know, Camp Ramah in the Poconos is a Jewish overnight camp in the Pocono Mountains, and it’s where we send our daughter, Lucy, to during the summer for 8 weeks. There is no other place she’d rather be in the summertime, and not having camp this past summer due to Covid-19, was a great loss for her. We are hopeful that summer 2021 will happen and she’ll be able to go back to her home away from home. Now, back to the story. This bag of clothes had items in it that she not only received while she was at camp, but also had things in it that I bought for her from companies that make the custom, personalized gear. Now mind you, NOTHING was wrong with these things. They were all in excellent condition. Lucy simply outgrew them and couldn’t wear them anymore. Then the lightbulb went off on top of my head. Why couldn’t I create a space where people could go and resell their kid’s no longer needed camp gear? Brilliant, and why hasn’t anyone else thought about this? I pitched the idea to my resident entrepreneur (aka, my husband), and he thought that this might actually be something worth working on and developing. Within 3 weeks, we developed the website and soft launched it by invitation only. Here’s why. It was important that before I officially launched, to have a “closet” full of items, representing all different camps. By the time we officially launched at the beginning of August, there were 300+ items… from camps all around the country. Shortly after the launch, I added on college and sports team gear and now we have close to 700 items.

If you’re still reading this and thinking, “Yeah this is a good idea. I’ve got gear to sell”, well let me tell you what you need to do to get started. Go to the Comeback website and sign up with an email and password. Then, set up a profile for yourself, link your banking information so when something of yours sells, you can get paid and you’re ready to list. Everything is done from your house or place of business — nothing comes to me. The seller has complete control over his/her closet. When you list an item, a form pops up with simple drop down questions so you’re able to quickly provide information about what it is you are selling. You decide pricing, shipping charges, you can promote your listings on your own social media accounts and you can change anything about an item you are selling at anytime. When an item sells, you simply ship the item to the buyer. Anything is considered gear, so long as it has the name of a camp, college or sports team, and it can be shipped. How does Comeback make money? Anything that sells for less than $15, Comeback takes $2.95. If something sells for over $15, Comeback take 20% and the seller keeps 80%.

And that my friends, is the dealio! Come to the wesite and sign up, even if you don’t have anything to sell or buy right now. Just come join the community — there is no charge to sign up! In addition, I encourage you to follow us on Instagram and on our Facebook page and please, please, please, tell your friends and family about Comeback. Remember, your trash is always someone else’s treasure, so don’t throw it out… sell it!
